Pharmacist Remains Impaired After Drug Use and Serious Criminal Convictions: GPhC Extends Conditions for 12 Months

Allegations

This case arose from a combination of substance misuse and serious criminal offending by a registered pharmacist. The underlying allegations had already been proved at an earlier principal Fitness to Practise hearing, so the purpose of the hearing on 17 August 2026 was not to reconsider whether the historical conduct occurred. Instead, the Committee had to decide whether the registrant’s fitness to practise remained impaired and, if so, what regulatory restriction remained necessary and proportionate.

The historical allegations were serious. They included cocaine use between May 2019 and January 2020 and cannabis use between October 2019 and January 2020. The registrant was also convicted of driving with diazepam above the statutory drug-driving limit. The laboratory result recorded in the allegation was 827 micrograms of diazepam per litre of blood.
