Pharmacist Removed from Register Due to Serious Sexual Offences Convictions

In a recent determination by the General Pharmaceutical Council’s Fitness to Practise Committee, a pharmacist was removed from the register following convictions for serious sexual offences. The pharmacist, who was not present or represented at the hearing, faced allegations of voyeurism and taking indecent images of a child. The Committee found the facts proved and determined that the pharmacist’s fitness to practise was impaired due to these convictions.

The allegations included multiple counts of voyeurism, where the pharmacist recorded individuals doing private acts without their consent for sexual gratification. Additionally, the pharmacist was convicted of taking indecent images of a child. These actions were found to have breached the fundamental principles of the pharmacy profession, particularly Standard 6, which mandates professional behavior at all times.

The Committee concluded that the pharmacist’s conduct was fundamentally incompatible with being a registered professional. Despite the pharmacist’s admission of impaired fitness to practise and expressed remorse, the Committee noted limited insight into the impact of his actions on victims and the profession’s reputation.

The sanction imposed was removal from the register, deemed necessary to protect the public and uphold public confidence in the pharmacy profession. The Committee emphasized that the pharmacist’s behavior, involving premeditated and sophisticated planning over a significant period, warranted the most severe sanction available.
